Luke 24: 8-11
And they remembered His words, and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.
Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles.
But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them.
I love the story of the birth of Jesus. God chose to send the message of His love through a tiny baby; the weakest, most dependent, and defenseless of all human beings.
In the words of a contemporary Christian song, “Mary was the first one to carry the gospel”.
In the gospel stories of the resurrection of Christ, (Matthew 28; Mark 14:28; Mark 16: 9-11; Luke 24:8-11; Jn 20:1-18)) again we find confirmation of God’s confidence and trust in women. Here He honors women by choosing them to be the first to take the message to the world that He was alive! Death was defeated and He had overcome the grave! No greater message was ever told, and women were the first to receive that message directly from the angels of the Lord and our Savior himself! They were instructed to go tell the other disciples.
To our great sorrow, this miraculous message is still discounted in some hearts today simply because it is spoken by a woman. Where in our society is the message of the miracle and value of life more disregarded and discounted than in the abortion industry? Women are being wounded and unborn babies are being destroyed by a society that no longer values the lives of either the woman or her child.
Many people today do not believe the testimonies of women who speak the truth of the horrors of abortion, and the healing that is possible through faith in Jesus Christ. It is in fact nonsense to many.
Yet, as daughters of the King, we must continue to bring that message of healing to the world. His message to us today is the same as it was to the women at the tomb. We have nothing to fear, because He has promised to go before us to prepare the way!
We, who have been rescued and brought back from the clutches of death that clings to abortion, are compelled to keep speaking the truth. He is risen! Indeed, He is Alive! In Him there is forgiveness, healing, and new life!
Because He lives we can face tomorrow! All praise to Jesus Christ our Lord and Risen Savior!
