Scripture: In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.(EP 1:13-14)
Devotional: After conception, the physical birth of a healthy baby is the natural expectation. The unborn child is equipped with everything it will need to survive birth into the physical world when the male sperm and female egg unite. With proper nourishment and time the unborn child will develop into a human life that is sustainable outside the mother’s womb. A new stage of life begins at birth.
In the same way, our salvation is conceived and sealed with Christ at the point of our faith. It is the beginning stage of our development as a Christian. We see in scripture, that water baptism is a natural expectation following the point of our authentic belief in Christ. (Acts 2:41; Acts 8:12; Acts 8:37-38; Acts 16:31-33).
It was the first commandment given to the new Christian believer (Acts 10:48). It is a witness to the world that we have been born again to a new life in the body of Christ (Romans 6:4; Romans 8:1-2). It is an outward sign of what was conceived in the heart.
Prayer: Father, we pray today for your kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven. Open our eyes and hearts Lord, that we might be able to humble our selves and accept the gift of salvation that you have promised to those who believe. We thank you for the beautiful gift of baptism as a witness to the world that we have died with you and have risen to a new life in Christ. We claim the victory that is ours because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross. All glory be to Him! Amen.
